We're incredibly honored to unveil our October issue 'Turnstile Takes Off: How Baltimore Shaped The World's Biggest Hardcore Band.'
For the uninitiated, it may seem like Turnstile exploded on the scene this year—an appearance on the 'Tonight Show,' topping the 'Billboard' charts, an NPR Tiny Desk concert, and a prediction by pop-music icon Charli XCX that it would be "Turnstile Summer." And, of course, the legendary Wyman Park Dell benefit concert this past May, which raised around $40,000 for Healthcare for the Homeless and drew a crowd of 10,000 by some estimates.
But for those who really know, Turnstile has always been here—first grinding it out in the local hardcore scene and then taking the genre to new heights on the international stage. And though they may be living out their wildest dreams around the world, they remain Baltimore kids at heart.
For our cover feature, senior editor Lydia Woolever connects with the band, explores their meteoric rise, and charts how their hometown continues to guide their past, present, and future.
